Remember, art makes a great gift! 🐶 I saw a post a month or so ago looking for artists for the "1st annual Poorly Drawn Pets" by @waifanimals here on the island and I thought it would be fun to help get pets adopted by sending them home with a cute one of a kind portrait, but turns out it was even better. For a $25 donation folks sent in photos of their pets and got a one of a kind piece of their pet. Artists of all skill levels gathered and had a draw jam. There was even a woman doing paintings and a few of the staff and volunteer dog walkers helped. But it seemed like there were more photos submitted than time would allow so I completed 5 on site and another 10 at home. These are a few of my favs! ✏️ That being said, pet portrait commissions are always open and I'm now going to offer sketches like these for only $25! They're done on 8.5x11" 110lb cardstock like I use for my prints. 🖼️ Upto 5x7" framed colored pencil portraits are going up from $50 to $60 and upto 8x10" framed to $120 (but that includes 2 pets with only $10 for each additional pet) because I realized how long they actually take me and finding fun frames is getting harder. **If you already have a commission in the queue I'm not charging you additional. Don't worry.** 🎨 We can also talk about watercolor portraits as well! 🥰 Support artists and get a one of a kind keepsake. Been a busy couple of months, weeks, days getting ready for #wastelandweekend ! We launch in 25 days to journey into the sands of sunny California. Pictured about are only *some* of the projects I've been working on: an 18th century frock coat made from parachute material with our tribe design painted on styled after a map, various liquor bottles painted like bombs and torpedoes and some lanterns to look like distressed, roasted and leaky radioactive material cannisters. I'm having a great time playing with acrylic and experimenting with textures and techniques and have a few more things to finish including a new parachute dress for myself! Pet portraits! I am always honored when people entrust me to create a likeness of their beloved family member, whether they are still in this world or passed on to the next. 🌈 "3 Queens" are Simba II, Tiger and Misty as Anne Boylen, Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, all portrayed lovingly in colored pencil on toned paper with white acrylic highlights. Framed together these ladies are linked by Tudor history and the cats themselves all share the same mother. 🐈 The last 3 photos are the primary reference for Tiger, a picture of Elizabeth I from Wikipedia and the line art I drew and transferred to the paper to begin rendering. 🖼️ Interested in a hand drawn, one of a kind original artwork of your pet (or another animal that you think would be cool) send me a message! Were you at the @whidbeyrenfaire Memorial Day weekend? Did you go to the Toasty Sea Serpent tavern? If you did, you saw some of my art! The heraldric inspired drinking sea beasties (kraken, sea horse [hippocampus] and sea lion) were painted specifically for the tavern. The tapestries were cut from green felt and I cut them out in such a way that 2 banners could be made, one positive and one negative. The 2 dragons come together to form an S for Seawylde, the name of the fictitious town for the Whidbey Island Ren Faire. They hung proudly on the main stage for all to see. The honey badger banner I painted maybe years ago and I consider it a visual analogy for triumph over adversity. It was on loan to the tavern but will go back on my wall. The last photo of course is me with my best girl @luthien26 in our tavern wench garb. It was a busy couple of days serving thirsty patrons, but it was the most fun bar shifts I've ever worked. It's been an amazingly busy couple of months! All my creative energy went towards the #bestofthenw show mid April and as soon as it was over it became a balance between training for a St. Helens hike, work landscaping, trooping Star Wars events, helping my husband build a shed and painting this chair. I'm so thrilled with how it turned out!!🤯 Painting with exterior grade latex paint was certainly a challenge. I'm already not the most proficient acrylic painter but it came together really well! I started by sketching it out on the primed Adirondack chair, then realized one board was upside down and the arms were on the wrong sides so I looked online how to assemble it and redrew my sketch.✏️ I tried to paint the background outlining my critters like when I watercolor, then remembered that with acrylic I can just paint them back in. It was also challenging blending gradients and the medium is watery yet dries fast (qualities you want in wall paint) so that was also a struggle for someone who's primarily a watercolorist.🎨 I tried to show as many species native to the Whidbey Island area as possible, including local celebrities Bruiser the elk, Ellie the elephant seal, my Lingcod mermaid and the Seattle Kraken. Also present are a gray phase red fox, coyote, Red Winged Blackbird, Bald Eagle, orcas, a Giant Pacific Octopus and more! There are even bats to represent my husband's squadron in the Navy (VQ-1). 🦇🦅🦑 The chairs were all painting by Whidbey Island artists and will be on display in Langley area businesses and auctioned off to raise money for @whidbeyislandnourishes which is a Whidbey island food bank. For #throwbackthursday I went digging looking for more work to sell at the upcoming @creativeavenue.nw April 6th and the @northwestartalliance Best of the NW spring show April 13-14 because obviously I had the best of intentions to do a ton of new work and well...I got busy. When the weather is nice I want to be outside working in the yard or at one of my landscaping gigs.🖼️ That said, these are pieces all from 2014-2015 when I first discovered @archespapers watercolor blocks and have used them nearly exclusively since then. That year I got to go to France in the spring and Maui in the fall and said a few studies. I say studies since they were painted on sight quickly. The quetzal was a commission but they never paid so I kept it.🎨 The last few were damaged while my dog was teething. I might crop them or do some interesting matting to fix them. We'll see.🐺 Also excuse the reflection on a few of these. It's not #fishfriday ... It's #mountainmonday ! I decided to paint another ecosystem piece and absolutely thrilled with how it came out, though honestly I should've done more species. Some frogs and more crayfish. Maybe a couple birds. However I'm so stoked with how the trout and rocks came out!! 🏞️ "Washington River Ecosystem" will be matted and framed for the Best of the Northwest show next month, though I'll have prints of it for the Creative Avenue market in Anacortes which is the week before. I might also add prints to the @artworkswhidbey online store. What do you think? Also I included only 2 process photos this time. 🖼️ Also while all of these critters live around Washington rivers and many of which do live in Mount Rainier National Park, this is by no means a 100% accurate portrayal of the park. I did have fun figuring out the lenticular clouds though. I'm so happy to share this with all of you! "Drizzly Lily" is a watercolor with acrylic highlights. It was a challenge to figure out the background and have the flower stand out like my "Yellow Tulip" which I consider a statement piece and I left the background white or the "Pink Lilies" that has a mottled blue wash.. The wash here is a blend of blues, greens and golds. I've done no color correction for the images here but I'll definitely do some brightening when it's time for prints and cards. 🎨 This is one of the pieces I hope to feature at the Best of the Northwest show in April. I've been told by my fellow haven't members at @artworkswhidbey that I need lots of original art, so I'm going to be very busy painting, matting and framing new pieces and balancing that with yard work, family time and all the other random things I do! I'm so incredibly honored to have been selected by the @northwestartalliance as one of this years Emerging Artists and truly fortunate to have a supportive, encouraging husband in @davidpucci71 who asked me what gear I needed to jump into the deep end. 💞 Through the images: 1 is the final 2 is after scumbling out where the water drops will go.
